Granular materials are the mixtures which are made of many particles.Granular materials are different from liquid, gas, solid, have its own uniquecharacteristics. This paper based on the analysis of the granular materialcharacteristics and effect analysis of granular material flow pattern factors, sodeduced a discharge capacity formula.After the granular particles material are introduced in this paper, during thefilling and discharge of the granular particles material, The mechanicalproperties within some mechanical parameters of granular particles materialwere studied. Use EDEM to simulate the filling and discharging of materials inthe silo. The purpose is to discussion EDEM simulation parameters and theshape of the particles used in the simulation has an effect on material flow type.By studying the properties of the granular particles material above, assuming thedischarging capacity of the silo are based on the formation and collapse of archin the silo, thus derived a discharge capacity formula.During the filling process of the granular particles material, on theparameters of the coefficient of friction between the particles, the frictionbetween the particles and the silo wall and the contact stiffness setting thedifferent values to simulate. Proposed that the use of EDEM can predict thestress of the silo wall, and the predicted pressure value is the same as thecalculation of the pressure value. The discharging of circular particles andelliptical particles are simulated, thus obtained the aspect ratio and the blockeffect of particles has great influence on the material flow type. In the simulation,the two simulation parameters that the friction coefficient between the storedmaterial and the silo wall and the hopper cone is considered the most influentialparameters on the flow pattern of silo materials. Through the understanding ofthe material properties, as well as the analysis of EDEM simulation results, adischarge rate formula was deduced; compared with Bewerloo law, this formularelatively is simple, thus greatly improves the computing speed.
