Photocatalysis is effective for the conversion of environmental-friendly solarenergy into chemical and electrical energy, solving the global problems of energycrisis and serious environment pollution to realize the substantial development ofsociety. Although various photocatalysts have been developed for the treatment ofdyeing wastewater, research works are still mainly focused on the preparation of the.Developing the approaches of photocatalyst immobilization and designing theefficient photocatalytic reactors are the key aims to realize the large-scale applicationof photocatalytic technology, inhibiting the disadvantages of powder photocatalystsincluding the difficulty of separation and the inconvenience of reuse. In this paper, coated with various photocatalytic films via sol-gel route were utilized inglass-ball-floated photocatalytic reactor for the treatment of dyeing wastewater. Thethickness of photocatalytic films on the hollow glass balls was uniform and highlyactive. The hollow glass balls were rotated uniformly with the bubbling processes inthe base of the solution and thus the induced the uniform liquid membrane of dyeingwastewater on the surface of hollow glass balls to absorb the irradiation lightefficiently, inhibiting the shield effect of dyeing wastewater. The preparation methodin this paper was simple and the glass-ball-floated photocatalytic reactor wasefficient for the light utilization, expanding the field of photocatalytic reactor design.Based on the optimization of photocatalytic reactor parameters, this paper mainlytried to solve the problems of TiO2photocatalytic film including the limited lightadsorption only for UV light and the poor adsorption of reactant, as followingsections.(1) Bi2O3/TiO2photocatalytic film applied in glass-ball-floated photocatalyticreactor for the removal of MOUniform and stable Bi2O3/TiO2photocatalytic film formed on hollow glass ballby the sol-gel method was applied to degrade dye wastewater in theglass-ball-floated photocatalytic reactor. Modification of Bi2O3significantly improvedthe visible light absorption of TiO2photocatalytic film and increased the degradation rate. The air bubbling from the bottom of the tank impelled the uniform rotation offloated glass balls and induced the uniform membrane on the film to utilize theirradiation light efficiently, inhibiting the shield effect of dyeing wastewater. Theoptimal activity was obtained with the1.0mol%Bi2O3and the gas velocity of0.47m/s. the Bi2O3/TiO2photocatalytic film was stable after being used for many times.(2) Ag-AgCl/BiOCl photocatalytic film applied in glass-ball-floated photocatalyticreactor and its propertyIn order to develop the non-TiO2photocatalytic film, the Ag-AgCl/BiOCl filmwas prepared via liquid-deposition method assisted with P123surfactant. Based onthe characterizations of FESEM, XRD, and UV-vis DRS, it could be found that thesurface of Ag-AgCl/BiOCl film was uniform. The in-situ doped Ag nanoparticlesimproved the utilization of visible light via the plasma resonance effect.Ag-AgCl/BiOCl photocatalytic film applied in glass-ball-floated photocatalytic reactorwas active for the degradation of Rhodamine B, methyl orange and4-chlorophenol.Additionally, the Ag-AgCl/BiOCl film was stable for the recycling test.(3) Bi2O3/TiO2@SiO2synergistic adsorption-photocatalytic system applied inglass-ball-floated photocatalytic reactorBi2O3/TiO2@SiO2synergistic adsorption-photocatalytic system prepared by thetwo-steps coating approaches improved the adsorption capability of reactant on thefilm and realized the continuous treatment process. Based on the XRD and FESEMresults, Bi2O3/TiO2@SiO2film was in the shape of multi-layers. The improvedadsorption capability of reactant was resulted from the porous channel of SiO2withthe effect of increased concentration. This work provided the new idea for theapplication of photocatalytic film in the environmental cleaning.
