Process manufacturing industries are considered to have high resource consumptionand pollution emissions. They are the basis of industrial economy and play an importantrole in promoting circular economy development of the whole industry. Enterprise, as thesmallest unit of economic system, is the best beginning of studying on the circulareconomic theory and practices.Circular economy is a kind of economic development mode based on the materialrecycling, regeneration and utilization. To achieve such target that promoting developmentof circular economy greatly, it is required to have a clear understanding on materialrecycling problems. In this paper, a formal modeling method is proposed through thecombination of material flow analysis and hybrid Petri net, which is suitable for studyingon material recycling problems of process manufacturing companies. Then the modelingmethod is applied to chemical companies engaging in production of salt lake resources.The model is not only for physical description and quantitative analysis of material flows,and identification of material recycling and utilization in whole production process, butalso for dynamic simulation of material flows in the enterprises through graduallyformalizing the static model as Petri net model, and using Stateflow tool for the Petri Netmodel simulation. It contributes to further study on migration and circulationcharacteristics of material flows in enterprises.The study concluded that by using the formal modeling method that combinedmaterial flow analysis with hybrid Petri nets for process manufacturing companies, it candescript intuitively and clearly circumstances about the input and output of each unit ofproduction process, material flow of the process, the intensity of materials using and wasteemissions. It can identify the key points of the environmental impact caused by theproduction, and achieved the goal of simulating the dynamic characteristics of materialconsumption and pollutant emission in enterprise production. In addition, the applying tosalt chemical enterprise is not only effective verification of the proposed method, but alsoprovide a reference for related study on circular economy simulation of such enterprises.
