Chinese herbal compound gel are composed of Astragalus, Gardenia, Cork, Frankincense, Myrrh, Antlers and Borneol. It has the function of alleviating fever and detoxification, cooling blood to dispel the silt, controlling swelling and pain, stop bleeding and promote tissue regeneration, mainly for the treatment of bruises, the purulent flesh damage, water and fire burns.Chinese herbal compound gel is a kind of Chinese material medical preparation which takes the extracting material and decoction of some Chinese herbal medicines as the primary raw material. The active ingredient of Frankincense and Myrrh is volatile oil, which is water-insoluble ingredient, while the gel is water-soluble. So we adopted a lipsome preparation to solve the problem. We adopted UV spectrophotometry to detect encapsulation efficiency of volatile oil in order to optimize preliminary screening of the prescription process. And the quality of lipsomes were evaluated by the appearance, the particle size, Zeta potential and so on. The group of active ingredients of drugs were composed by the Astragalus, Gardenia, Cork and Antlers water-soluble drugs. Borneol was used by ultra-fine powder, dissolved in glycerol to improve utilization. In this research, prescription of the gel were selected by the orthogonal. We made score standard with sensory index and experiment index for gels. With this score standard, we made multivariate study for the preparation of gel and obtained optimum formulation composition. The gel was made of1%concentration of carbomer-940,50%mixing drugs,5%glycerol and5%polysorbate.This article established a method of analysis of the Chinese herbal compound gel, selected geniposide as indicated ingredients. In this research, Cape jasmine was identified by thin layer chromatography(TLC). And we used high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) to determine the content of geniposide. The results showed that the linear correlation between the concentration of geniposide from4.0to82.0μm/mL and chromatographic peak area was good and the regression equation was y=19.753x—16.09776(r2=0.9991)。The precision and test sample recovery accord with requirements and it is suitable for the quality control analyst of gel. Test showed that geniposide in gel was0.5537mg/g. The physico-chemical property of this gel was studied, such as the appearance, pH, viscosity. The results showed that the srability of the physical and chemical properties of Chinese herbal compound gel was good and meet preparation requirement. The formulations stability studies showed that there was no significant difference when the gel was centrifuged or exposed to light. But considering the liposomes of volatile oil was not stable when exposed to heat, so the product was conserved in cool temperature and in the dark.In the test of transdermal permeation in vitro, we used high performance liquid chromatography to determination the cumulative transmission quantity of geniposide. By data fitting, it was found that the penetration kinetics followed Higuchi functional equation, Q=21.217t1/2-22.856(r2=9905).
