The penetration behaviors of different structures with different aspect ratios80vol.%tungsten fiber/Zr38Ti17Cu10.5Co12Be22.5bulk metallic glass composite rods have been studied. The following conclusions are,In the penetration process of large aspect ratio tungsten fiber/Zr based bulk metallic glass composite rods, the Zr based BMG vaporized and tungsten fibers show bending fracture, distortion and sheer fracture. The tungsten fibers in the head of rods also appear to melt and splitting phenomenon and the head of rods shows shear deformation apparently. In the while, target occurs failure model with splitting and spalling under the action of amorphous alloys gas, which is similar to mechanism of detonation gas acts to rock phenomenon. In the same impact energy, penetration ability of composite material is superior to93W alloy. When in the test of small aspect ratio and aluminum jacketed tungsten fiber/Zr based BMG composite rods, the results can’t reflect the penetration behavior of composite material accurately. The specific reasons need for further research and analysis. The penetration test of45steel jacketed, no interval segmented and nylon interval segmented tungsten fiber/Zr based BMG composite rods show that the penetration depth remains relatively constant when the velocity exceeds a certain value. In the rising phase of penetration depth, the depth of nylon interval segmented rod maximum, following is no interval segmented rod, and the last is45steel jacketed rod in the same velocity. And the penetration ability of the three structural tungsten fiber/Zr based BMG composite rods is prior to of small aspect ratio93W alloy rods under the existing launch velocity (about1800m/s). In addition, multiple coronary cracks were found around the crater of the composite rods and93W alloy rods.On the basis of experiments, three dimensional numerical simulations on penetration process are carried out by using LS-DYNA. From numerical calculation we can obtain that appearance of crater is similar to the actual situation. In the while, the curves of penetration depth vs. velocity, which can be gotten by simulate calculation of multiple velocities, can reflect the change law of penetration depth in the test well.
