According to the problems of jaw crusher liner such as lower initialhardness, low productive rate, liable for shrinkage and porosity, and so on, inthis paper, the composition of the medium manganese steel liner material wasmodified and designed, and the casting process was simulated and optimized.On the basis of ordinary medium manganese steel, rare earth and PurifyingAgent Tie Shen No.1was added to modify the compositions, the reasonablemain ingredients designed wasas follows(wt%): C:0.68~0.8, Mn6.8~7.8,Cr1.5~1.7, Si:0.5~0.6, Mo:0.35~0.43, Ni:0.1~0.3, RE:0.1, Ti:0.1, andW:0.1.Material property simulation software Jmatpro was adopted to set up thematerial database of medium manganese steel and calculate its thermalparameters. According to the material properties and geographical dimensionsof the liner, the inclined casting, iron modeling process were designed, thecomponent, gating system, cold iron and sanding model was built up with3Dmodeling software Unigraphics (UG).The casting process of modified medium manganese steel jaw crusher linerwas simulated with software Procast, the metal flow rule and temperature fielddistribution during the casting process was analyzed, the temperature variationduring the solidification was obtained. At the same time, the reason and possiblepositions of the defects such as loosen, shrinkage, porosity, sand inclusion andso on was analyzed, which provided a basis and reference for the optimizationof process, and the decrease and elimination of the defects.According to the modified composition of the medium manganese steeldesigned, samples were cast and heat treatment was conducted. Analysis of themicrostructure and the properties showed that after the heat treatment ofhardening and twice tempering, the hardness of the modified mediummanganese steel has reached above400HB, while the toughness has reachedabove10J/cm2, the comprehensive mechanical properties can satisfy the requirements of the jaw crusher liner under a working condition of non-strongimpact.
