Research Cai And "New Youth.

This thesis mainly concerning the relationship between CaiYuanpei and the journal New Youth. The following three crucial aspects are considered. Firstly, the gatherings between Cai and his fellows in New Youth need investigation; Secondly, Cai’s publications on the journal should be analyzed; Lastly, the innovative topics on the journal proposed by Cai should be discused. During the term of Peking University’s president, Cai Yuanpei invited many scholars who supported New Youth and were interested in ideology and culture innovation, which objectively promoted the development of the journal. Meanwhile, he would never interfere with the society’s so-called "stir up trouble" of his fellows. He tried his best to protect his fellows whenever there were blames on them, to protect the right of speech of Chen Duxiu, one of the founders of the New Youth is a good illustration. Thus, it can be concluded that Cai Yuanpei is actually the defender of New Youth.This paper studies the relationship between CaiYuanpei and the journal New Youth. It not only focuses on his president identity in Peking University by which he embraced a group of like-minded intelligents, but also his publications on New Youth can indicate some important points. The four chapter elaborates his views on religion, literature, education. It is obvious that the common thinkings of Cai Yuanpei and his fellows in New Youth make a kind of good tacit understanding from among them.
