Ethical Review Of Online Game Development

In recent decades the internet has become a symbol of new times and the internettechnology has brought great changes to global people’s way of communication andspreading information. Kids’ addition to online games has become a social trouble.Thus there is a need of restriction and regulation from outer supervision departmentson online game development industry. At the same time the enterprises for onlinegame development should rethink and improve their work. Only in this way can theyreduce or avoid the negative effects of their online game development and get achance to progress healthily and continuously. There are many moral problems inChina’s recent online game development. They are discussed in this thesis andproposals to solve them are also given. This thesis aims to research the moralresponsibility in online game development and propose a comprehensive managementmode including legal, administrative, technical and moral ways to supervise thedevelopment process. Those ways should be combined well to make the moralresponsibility in the field fully shouldered. And the management mode is consideredas a support.As for ethical perspective on online game development I divide my research intofive parts. The first part is an introduction and the body includes four chapters.The first chapter is about the summary of online game development concerningthe related concepts in the field, the moral features of online game development andthe double dimension in it.In the second one the ethical situation for online game development is presentedand reasons for the recent moral problems are also found. The research data is basedon the enclosed questionnaires and the moral requirements in the field are drawn.There is an urgent need of ethical guidelines for online game development.In the third one five ethical principles for online game development are proposed.They are the principle for combination of responsibility and benefit, no-harmprinciple, justice principle, moral and educational principle and self-disciplineprinciple.In the last chapter solutions to improve and strengthen the ethical supervision foronline game development are discussed. The possible approaches include the formingof professional moral principles in the field, strengthening professional moraleducation, setting up a system for the public to supervise the development processmorally and establishing the moral evaluation mechanism for it.
