The paper is mainly on the history and cultural values of Dzom nyak Choten. With the general concept of Tibetan latter diffusion of Buddhism and by tracing the footprint of the great Indian Master Midi to get a clear perspective of the formation and process of Dzom nyak Choten. We can acclaim to some extent that Dzom nyak Choten is the marker of the revival of Tibetan Buddsim in Kham. Meanwhile, this stupa is regarded as the one of the three prestigious stupas in the world, not only for its time-honored history but also the beautiful collection of rare treasures, and has been played a key role in carrying forward and inheriting the heritage of arts and culture. In order to make more people to perceive the importance of this great stupa, here the author is going to conduct the paper in six main chapters by the combination of field work and the study of relevant references.The first chapter is preface, mainly elaborated the purpose of the thesis and revealed the significance of rural cultural studies. Analyzing with the current research staus on the Buddhsit stupa and Tibetan stupa along with the Dzom nyak Choten is not only for collecting references for the study of this thesis, but also to identify the relevant literatures, aiming to compare the pros and cons of these materials, learning the useful and reliable information, furthermore to finds its shortcomings, finally to find a breakthrough, and thus to enrich the appropriate content, and strive to view this thesis creatively, reasonably. Moreover, according to the content plus research status of the paper to ensure that the research of the paper is objective, genuine and scientific.The second chapter is on Pandita Midi, the founder of Dzom nyak Choten, a very great Indian master, who contributed hugely to the revival of Buddhism in Tibet, but is known little to the world. In outlining the origin and development of the stupa engaged to analyze the background information of Dzom nyak Choten, along with introducing the Pandita Midi, further to reveal the meaning of the creation of the stupa, and then to cover the reincarnation system of Midi as thread of the development of the stupa and to indicate its rise and fall.The third chapter discusses the cultural characteristics of Dzom nyak Choten. To start from the architectural structure of Dzom nyak Choten, analyzing the unique features of this stupa into three aspects of Symbolism in Tibetan Buddhist architecture to reveal the core meaning of it and to appreciate the profound Tibetan Buddhist culture. And to make a brief discussion on the subsidiary buildings of Dzom nyak Choten, highlighting the characteristics of Tibetan Buddhist architecture alongside the upper stream of Yangtse River, summarizing cultural ethnic, religious and regional characteristic of Dzom nyak Choten.The fourth chapter discusses the cultural value of Dzom nyak Choten. From the art form of architecture, mural and sculpture of Dzom nyak Choten to analyze the school of art developed around the Sgaryul area, by doing so not only speculate on the history but also the visual impact of the art that nurtured in people’s mind and get their soul edified. Furthermore, from the relics of Dzom nyak Choten, to list precious items in chronological order, pointing out their different characteristics of different periods and embodied social background of varied styles. Finally,make a summarization on the age, artistic and integrity characteristic of the relics. Then to reveal the value of the Dzom nyak Choten.Chapter five analyzes the functions of the Dzom nyak Choten. Dzom nyak Choten as a special religious architecture functioned religiously to these devout believers to worship the stupa and made them enjoyed conducting the construction of the alike religious entities. As a cultural carrier, it played a role in the development of architecture and art as well as the affect of protection and prosperity. In terms of its social function, Buddhism itself absorbed such contents as social and moral aspects of the outstanding achievements of society, thus Buddhist architecture has possessed a certain protection on human being.Chapter six is the conclusion of this thesis, mainly elaborated the historical status of Dzom nyak Choten in the formation of Tibetan Buddhism. As the cultural connotation became the main stream of tourism, here made an analysis on the importance of the Dzom nyak Choten, which contributed to the regional tourism. And called for more attention and hope from the researchers, as a new era researcher, we should broaden our horizons in order to explore more untapped traditional Tibetan culture in the Tibetan plateau.
