"Chai"is a very common cultural concept in Uyghur society. Both in spiritual and material aspects, it became a very important part of Uyghur people’s like."Chai" is the cause of different ways of relationship among Uyghur women,and it also the main way of inheriting social etiquette and food culture.Although some customs named with "chai" have no direct relation with tea, this word can be a proper expression of many cultural phenomena in Uyghur society. Uyghur people name most of the etiquette activities with "chai", which has the meaning of tea at the beginning, and I think this is because in all these activities people drink tea together.Based on the different meanings of "chai" in Uyghur culture, this article will analyze the different kind of "chai" and their function in Uyghur society."Chai" has different meanings in Uyghur culture, includes tea, different kind of gift prepared by Uyghur women for their friends and relatives, a kind of gathering, and different kind of etiquette.As the carrier of culture, language can tells us much about a special kind of culture. In the first part we explain cultural language about "chai" in Uyghur society. Proverbs, traditional songs, and typical daily expressions, tell us about the uniqueness and diversity of Uyghur "Chai" culture.Next coming is about Uyghur tea culture, includes the formation history of the Uyghur tea culture and it’s contemporary changes with reasons. What kind of manners about tea do the Uyghurs have in daily life and how it changes, why they are changing,these are the questions we will answer in this part.After this I will talk about "chai" as a gift. What kind of "chai" women prepare for their friends with what kind of purpose and what these gifts meant to the people that receive that gift."Chai" with the meaning of the gatherings of Uyghur women is the main part of the whole essay, different kind of "chai" gathering and their details, features and functions for Uyghur women life;what kind of role "chai" played in their family and social relationship. Last part is about other folk activities that named with "chai",especially those ones related to Uyghur weddings, which further reflects the cultural uniqueness of Uyghur culture."Chai" like a center of Uyghur culture, it relates different aspects of culture, especially women play a quite significant role through all these cultures, this can be a quite unique perspective when we try to understand Uyghur woman’s social activities and social relationships, that’s why I put all these different kind of "chai"s put together to analyze.With the improvement of people’s economic and cultural living standards,"chai" becomes a very important part of Uyghur people. This kind of special culture is a good way of maintaining the social relationships of Uyghur society. Nowadays, people are becoming more and more estranged, so it is important to use the functions of this kind of culture to build a more harmonious society and maintain social stability.
