The phenomenon that Cape No.7opened the so-called “Taiwan cinema renaissance” since2008not only sends a positive impact on Taiwan cinema’s revenue structure and generationaltransition among the filmmakers, but also the significant interwoven by a series ofsuccessions, overlapping, and collisions with previous Taiwan cinema itself. On the one hand, the new generation of directors through the structure of urban and rural image, the memory ofthe times and cultural landscape, put more exuberant diversifiable significance in Taiwancinema, showing the complex and full of tension relations within the local cultural diversity,to arouse the audience’s collective unconscious, so that films’ cultural imagination candevelop. On the other hand, due to the impacts of the special historical background andpolitical environment, such a multicultural identity tendency to imagine could remain limitedby the fetters penetrated in Taiwan society inwardly. From the shaping of landscape under thecommercial logic influence, the ethnic narrative combined with the current era background, areflection on the interplay between Japanese colonial memory and Chinese cultural symbols, the traditional/modern opposition and integration and other aspects, this article analyzes thehidden anxiety and confusion in the present Taiwan cinema. In my discussion, by the statusquo of Taiwan cinema, we could find its own way to develop and survive in the future andpoint out a creative trend.
