Setting the use of Chinese characters in contemporary artistic creation since1985as astarting point, the thesis traces the traditions to its source with the visual use methodsand writing experience of traditional Chinese characters as the basis and works outseven traditional contexts on character use by syncopating the traditional charactersresource and the seven contexts are:1. title character tradition;2. couplets charactertradition;3. inscription tradition;4. engraving, casting and moulding charactertradition;5. illustration character, comic character, poster and banner charactertradition;6. folk coinage of characters tradition;7. writing tradition. In the study oftraditional characters, the thesis further reveals “flaunt” aethestic specificallyexpressed by Chinese characters and the traditional culture connotation behindcharacter use with the aim to make breakthroughs by learning from the past andprovide references for today’s art creation with print media.
