Chinese bird-and-flower painting has been developed for several thousand years, which is inseparable with politics, economy, philosophy and other cultural factors in eachera. In-depth exploration on concepts of “fine brushwork”and “freehand brushwork” isa rational reflection on the inherent aesthetic styles and development context of traditionalflower-and-bird painting. The exploration on concepts of “work” and “write” in traditional flower-and-bird paintingis mainly intended to excavate, inherit and develop traditions. Imagery is the fundamentalelement in Chinese paintings, no matter in meticulous painting or free sketch painting. Intraditional aesthetic style, the complementary relationship between work and write inbird-and-flower painting is contradictory and unified: free sketch painting requires aconsciousness of "delicate working", while meticulous painting calls for an enjoyable spirit. Both techniques can exist in one good painting.
