| Descartes seeks an absolutely reliable foundation to fund the scientific metaphysics, and the foundation is "I think" which got from the process of widely suspicion. With the reliability of "I think", Descartes gets the principle "something is true if we comprehend it clearly" to become the standard of true conception. Descartes thinks "I think" as an attribute must cling to "I", so "I think, therefore I am". But the "I" of "I think" making sure is spiritual entity, our sense tells us our body, as substantial entity, also exists, or we can’t interpret the sources of sense. So we must make sure the existence of substantial entity with an absolute entity which is the god. Kant recognize the positive meaning of Descartes’"I think", but criticize its contradiction and halfway. Kant thinks Descartes’"I think" suppose the existence of subject "I" when he regard it as attribute, so the proposition "I think, therefore I am" is tautology. Kant thinks Descartes’"I think" is pure "I think" at first, and "I" is the logical subject of "I think", which we can be aware of it but cannot perceive it. Descartes’philosophy becomes dogmatism and skepticism which result from confusing empirical "I think" and transcendental "I think".Kant inherits Descartes’"I think" but alters it radically. Kant’s "I think" is pure form of think and the spontaneous intellect idea, which accompany every idea and keep itself identical. Kant’s "I think" endows unification to empirical materials, which is the premise of forming knowledge, so Kant’s "I think" is transcendental "I think" and pure apperception. Kant expresses "I think" with Germany word "Ich denke" and instead of Descartes’"cogito" which indicates Kant’s "I think" contain "I myself" and "think itself" two aspects. But Kant’s "I think" contains the insurmountable problem which is circulation problems, because "I think", as the spontaneous intellect idea, is not created by subject."I think" presents some one object which is the transcendental subject X. We know nothing about transcendental subject and we presume it just by the idea "I think", so we probe into the transcendental subject only base on the way of reflection not the way of perceive. The process of reflecting transcendental subject always accompany the idea "I think", but transcendental subject produces the idea "I think", so circulation problems emerged inevitably. The reason of emerging circulation problems of Kant’s "I think" contains two points, one is that Kant still obey the thinking tradition of subject-predication, another is the premise of reflectiveness. |
