Understanding Of 5-6 Years Old Children For Sex Differences

This research adopts content analysis methods, selects two top classes’students in one kindergarten of Nanjing as the research objects, uses the method of painting and interview to gather data, totally collects48students’paints of "Male and Female"and their interview material.Bases on the analysis of collected materials, the researcher finds children mainly define the meaning of male and female from appellation, male and female characteristics and physiological properties; children are satisfied with their own gender; children usually distinguish men from women by their hair style mostly, secondly by clothes; children’s understanding on the gender differences are different, it reflects in the physical differences, psychological differences and social behavior differences. Physical differences include appearance differences(hair style, clothes, accessories); psychological differences are binary opposite, at the same time, children are inclined to appreciate their own gender group’s characters, criticize the other gender group’s characters; social behavior differences include role-behavior differences, activity interest differences, aggressive behavior differences and interpersonal communication differences.The researcher discusses the research results that include:analyze the factors that affect children’s understanding to gender differences (biological factors and social culture factors), the absence of gender education for children. The researcher puts forward suggestions for the result:construct gender culture in the family; construct gender culture in the kindergarten;call of gender education for children.Finally, the researcher makes a reflection of the research methods and the research itself.
