This paper randomly selected1200students and26teachers with rich tabletennis teaching experience in teachers’ professional physical education major fromtwelve colleges and universities, including three universities from Yantai university,Ludong university and Qingdao university in the east of Shandong Peninsula; threeuniversities from Taishan University, Weifang University, the Shandong NormalUniversity in the middle of Shandong Peninsula; three colleges from LiaochengUniversity, Bingzhou College, and Dezhou college in northwest of ShandongPeninsula; three colleges from Qufu Normal University, Linyi University and HezeCollege in southwest of Shandong Peninsula, according to four regions divided inShandong Province: east of Shandong Peninsula (also known as the JiaodongPeninsula), middle of Shandong Peninsula, northwest of Shandong Peninsula,Southeast of Shandong Peninsula. It talks mainly about the development of electivetennis courses in Shandong colleges and universities by using the method ofliterature, questionnaire, expert interview and statistics method. This investigationinvolved in the situation of students with table tennis selective course of Shandonguniversities, faculty, facilities, curriculum and teaching management, teaching, andnumber of general class, table tennis teaching materials, course development, teachingmethods and evaluation etc.The study results as follows: Firstly, students of sports education major inShandong universities have some table tennis experience before their tennis courselearning, and they’d like to participate in table tennis, but their table tennis technicallevel is not high. Secondly, the sex ratio of table tennis teachers in Shandong OrdinaryUniversities is seriouly out of order, but the age structure is relatively reasonable. Theprofessional title and academic structure is relatively low. The age of teaching isrelatively reasonable, but lack of corresponding professional background. Most of theteachers think it is very necessary to go abroad and continue further education.Thirdly, teaching hours of tennis course in Shandong universities are36hours. Ittakes the small-class teaching system, with the number of people in the20-30range.Some colleges arrange tennis course for junior students, which affects the normaldevelopment of table tennis elective class. In the investigation, there are nineuniversities with the teaching content of theory and technology. Three universities did not offer theory course, and theory textbooks are outdated. Most of universities takeskill, theory and performance for evaluation. Fourthly, Most of the teachers taketraditional teaching methods, which is single and lack of interest. However, thestudents are satisfied with the teacher’s teaching attitude. Fifthly, indoor tennis room isbasicly enough for two or three students to use one table, but the quality of the bat isnot good. Most of the school tennis stadium is paid open except for teaching.Facilities of extra-curricular activities time indoor and outdoor are relatively tense.Sixthly, Most of the students in their spare time like to participate in table tennis, andweekly for one or two times. Seventhly, school table tennis competition activities isunsatisfactory. Only part of university has various forms of school table tenniscompetition each year, but lack of competion exchanges with other universities.Eighthly, factors such as facilities, the relevant departments and the leadership of theattention degree, capital investment and faculties of colleges and universities aremostly affact the development of tennis in Shandong Province.
