In modern times, the size of the large-scale athletic meetings’ opening ceremony is gettingbigger and bigger, and its form also becomes colorful and dazed. With the transformation of thethoughts to guide the development of sports in China, the size and form of the opening ceremonyof the Twelfth National Games are highly expected. Aiming to return to the essence of sports andguide the mass fitness, this opening ceremony differs from all previous National Games, and itchooses Wu Shu as the main performance in the opening ceremony, in order to guide all theChinese people to participate in physical exercises. This article firstly analyzes the planning, invention and performance of “Wu Shu-Tai Chi” in the opening ceremony of the TwelfthNational Games, and then puts forward constructive suggestions about group performance of WuShu in the future, in order to promote the inheritance and development of the Chinese traditionalculture. There is much difference in design concept of the opening ceremony performances betweenthe Twelfth National Games and others before. Insisting on the Wu Shu invention as the guidingrule in combination with new performance design and omitting the theatrical performances anddischarge of fireworks in large scale, it is the first time for the National Games which is held inthe daytime. The action design is based on the purpose for the mass fitness with simple moves, inwhich most of them are derived from the Wu Shu and Tai Chi. The costume design takes Chinesered and golden yellow as theme colors. As the symbol of the Chinese nation and the descendantsof Huangdi and Yandi, Golden yellow has meaning of succession and development in Chinesetradition. However, the performance was held during the day without help of the light; theperformers of Tai Chi Ball were wearing deep purple costumes, so its color was a little dark anddid not match the whole performance of this opening ceremony. As to music invention, it isadapted from “Xing Yun Liu Shui” of Tai Chi, with the lyrics about Wu Shu, but the invention ofthe original music demo is finished so late that Tai Chi’s actions do not work together with themusic. The formation of the performers is arranged according to the Eight Diagrams theory ofChinese Tai Chi.In short, by reviewing the cultural influences in other areas on the Wu Shu-Tai Chiperformance section of this opening ceremony, this article analyzes and summarizes theinvention elements of Wu Shu group performance, and finds the problems and then proposesappropriate solutions, in order to provide the useful theoretical basis for the invention of Wu Shu performance in the opening ceremony in the future. In fact, Wu Shu is one of the sports withethnic connotations: the different actions of Wu Shu taken by the performers with much Wu Shuexperience will show the theme of the performance; The invention of Wu Shu performance needsthe original music demo, and the actions are invented with the rhythm of the music; at the sametime, the performers are trained to be familiar with music melody; the color of the costumeshould be selected according to the specific light issues; and the principles of performers’movements for Wu Shu group performance are as followed: nearer, faster and more accurate.
