After decades of development, the concepts of globalization, internationalization, and multiculturalization, have been world-wildly accepted, as well as their following consequences, one of which is the violently rising international students total. China, especially after her successful host of Olympic Games in2008and World Expo in2010, her international position is greatly promoted, so the cultural adaptation is always one of the hot topics in the field of cross-cultural communication and the field of language teaching. It is exactly the same case with the foreign students in China, and their adaptation to Chinese culture has also been an eye-catching issue for international scholars. For the purpose of having a general knowledge of the international students’cultural adaptation so as to provide suggestions for solving the problems in the fields of our higher education and educational administration, the author of this thesis performed some empirical study. Carefully designed questionnaires are distributed among102international students from different countries worldwide in universities all over Jiangxi province. They cover different perspectives like natural environment, everyday life, language barrier, social interaction, academic communication, and psychological stress etc., in order to explore the main factors influencing the adaptation level and adaptation process of foreign students in Jiangxi-based universities individually and socially. The data analysis is carried out with EXCEL under the theoretical analysis of culture shock, intercultural adaptation models, and intercultural adaptation strategies. According to research results, most international students come to China for improving language level, so as to be more competitive in career. A part of them would like to know about China by traveling. Most international students have difficulties in interpersonal relationship and language learning, and their cultural group, age, sojourn time in China have obvious impact on their intercultural adaptation Status. The results can function as the theoretical base for management staff of international students. Some suggestions are put forward for international students to strengthen their ability to adapt to a foreign culture, lift their psychological pressure, build up their confidence, thus, the complete vision into international students and effective management can be achieved. Finally, some recommendations are provided based on the experimental study, but some questions are also left for future studies at the end of the dissertation.
