Human learning is from specific sensory experience to abstract symbol representation, however not all sensory experiences can become part of memory, because the human memory is the multi-memory which includes sensory memory, short-term memory and long-term memory. To have external sensory stimuli, the three processes,"choosing information","organizing information" and "integrating information" should be experienced, so that the information can be placed into long-term memory. In other words, only after significant thought, organization and change, can have a longer memory, and study effectively. In the current rush of information education, due to the access to professional development for teachers, teachers can obtain a large number of multi-media teaching resources. However, if some useless teaching resources which might also have negative effect, are applied to the class, teachers’energy can be wasted and get half result with double work. Therefore, to present highly qualified information should be teachers’profession.Due to the development of domestic multimedia teaching and the demand from educators that to presenting high quality courseware with texts and graphs. The dissertation discussed layout design and text/background color combinations design of courseware by utilizing gaze tracking experiments method based on cognitive theory of multimedia learning. Primary coverage of the dissertation was as follows:Analyzed the affection of layout Design (such as Graphic area ratio, graph position etc.) to eye tracking (such as fixation number, mean fixation duration, pupil size, mean saccade distance etc.). Designed and completed the corresponding experiments. Experimental results show that:1) Graphic area ratio has a significant effect on subject’s fixation number, mean fixation duration, pupil size and mean saccade distance.2) Graph position has a significant effect on subject’s pupil size, but it has no significant effect on subject’s fixation number, mean fixation duration, and mean saccade distance.3) Both graphic area ratio and graph position have significant effect on subject’s correct rate of reading comprehension.Analyzed the affection of text/background color combinations (such as text/background color combinations (T/BCC), background color gradients direction(BCGD), etc.) to eye tracking. Designed and completed the corresponding experiments. Experimental results show that:1) Text/background color combinations design has a significant effect on subjects’ fixation number, mean fixation duration, pupil size and mean saccade distance.2) Background color gradients direction has a significant effect on subjects’pupil size and mean saccade distance, but it has no significant effect on subjects’fixation number and mean fixation duration.3) While text/background color combinations are R/W, P/W, P/K and background color gradients direction are LD2DU, it will raise subjects’ correct rate of reading comprehension and subjects will have a fastest respond time.4) While tex/background color combinations are O/W, G/W, Y/K and background color gradients direction are RD2LU, it will reduce subjects’correct rate of reading comprehension but subjects’respond time are not slowest. The whole article can be divided into four parts:The first part is the introduction, which includes the question, the definition, the goal of the study and other aspects. The second part is the theories, the summery of the study and the methods of the study. The theories part is mainly about the cognitive theory of multi-media learning, the dual coding theory, and the cognitive load. In the summary of the study, category of the required elements, relative study results and the study methods will be included. In addition, the experiment of eye movement will be discussed in this part. The third part is the experimental study which has two experiments. The first experiment will discuss the effects created by the proportion of pictures and words; the second experiment is to explore how do the combination of words and colors and the gradient in the background influence the eye movement. The experiment will base on the experiment of eye movement and data of eye movement. The results of the experiment will be analyzed and discussed. The forth part is the conclusions and suggestions. The advantages, disadvantages and the improvements will be presented in this part.
