This is a user experience design-led era, and the mobile phone has become the important personal mobile device of information communication. With the apple touch-screen smart phone crazy, the touch-screen mobile phones have become the inevitable trend of development of the mobile phone. Touch-screen mobile phones enhance the interaction and communication between the user and the interface. However, it is popular not because of the touch-screen technology itself, but because the touch interface, based on the touch-screen technology, can bring different interact and new user experience. So focused on the touch-screen mobile phones product development, the research explores the usability factors model of the touch-screen mobile phones interface design. Then, Sixteen underlying usability factors that essential to the perceived usability of the touch-screen mobile phones from the perspective of actual users were reviewed. The Perceived Usability Questionnaire tailored to measure the perceived usability for touch-screen mobile phones was developed and tested through a survey. After the exploratory factor analysis, a total of seven factors and thirteen interface design elements were derived. Taking the full information and practical significance of the model into account, a total of ten factors and thirteen interface design elements were derived, including:efficiency, understandability, learnability, helpfulness, navigation, consistency, frustration, attractiveness, controllability and customizability, which is also called MPU.Then, by multiple linear regression, the research explores the relational model between usability factors and interface design elements in-depth. And the MPU was used as the questionnaire measure in a series task-based laboratory user testing. A total of40collage students were recruited as participants of the experiment, and the testing results from the high-fidelity prototypes and the actual products were compared. The results indicate that, the high-fidelity prototypes are proved as sensitive and effective as the actual products in the detection of usability problems of touch-screen mobile phones. This approach reflectting the idea of user-centered design, on one hand, can promote users to participate in the interface design of touch-screen mobile phones. One the other hand, it can quantify testing results fast, and provide recommendations for follow-up product development in a timely. |
