OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is a key technology inbroadband wireless communication system, which is a preferred data moduIationtechnique for achieving high spectral efficiency and combating fading in highdata-rate wireless communications. And IEEE 802.11a Wireless LAN systems whichadopt OFDM for the physical layer access are gaining more and more attention due tothe widespread practical prospect. In order to put this high data-rate wireless LAN in practice, it is necessary toimplement OFDM system based on IEEE 802.11a in hardware. And the backbone ofthe thesis is to carry out hardware design of key modules in OFDM system, including coder and encoder、base band modulation and demodulation、symbolsynchronization and frequency-offset estimation. Their implementation scenarios aregiven and verified in the thesis, and the result turns out right. Considering difficultiesand the factors of the speed and area, several innovations in hardware implementationare developed in this thesis, for example, the design and implementation of pipeline64-point FFT Processor based on CORDIC (COordinate Rotation Digital Computer)arithmetic and double ping-pang RAM; the hardware implementation ofauto-correlation and inter-correlation module using advanced Booth multiplier andhigh-speed division in symbol synchronization; saving 50% of resources bymultiplexing frequency-offset estimation and compensation design based on CORDICarithmetic; In addition, enough attention has been given to the optimization of the physicalimplementation both in the whole architecture and details, which greatly improves theworking speed and reduces the depletion of chip resources.
