With the development of complex power electronic products, the electromagnetic environment of electronic equipment becomes increasingly harsh, as a result, electrostatic discharge problems of electronic equipment and devices is becoming more serious, and has become a serious threat to electronic equipment and system. ESD (Electro-static discharge) can produce large current, high potential, strong electric field, so it will form changing current greatly in a short time, and has an impact on the devices and equipment. However, TVS, as a kind of commonly used ESD protection device, its feature will cause overshoot voltage, which affect the effectiveness of ESD protection. In view of the above questions, this paper carried out the "Study on TVS overshooting voltage modeling method and application basing on the characteristics of ESD", including the following four parts:(1) The ESD mechanism and characteristics has been analyzed, the ESD formation mechanism, spectrum characteristics, transfer and loss of the energy characteristics, ESD protection mechanism, ESD failure mechanism are included.(2) The system level ESD model which based on the analysis of the simplified ESD interference test of the site layout has been built, the ESD source, transmission line and load has been included. For the problem of TVS overshoot voltage, model has been simulated with the software, Matlab, and the model is modified by the range method-variance method.(3) Based on the ESD TVS overshoot voltage model validation experiment was designed. And the standard environment measurement experiment was conducted. The measurement result has consistency of the previous simulation results.(4) On the basis of the above study, this paper puts forward the initial compensation scheme for TVS overshoot voltage. At the same time, two engineering application of ESD interference cases has been solved, which includes power concentrator and a vehicle auxiliary power supply. The suppression measure covers TVS paralleled, structure ESD ground wire, the simple design of ESD filter and the shielding shell.Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that TVS is a proper protective device for the ESD interference. But its own characteristics would result in the failure protection problem. The TVS overshoot voltage model building is a appropriate reference for the engineers to design products anti electrostatic discharge interference.
