| In recent years, coordination polymers, also called metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been developing very rapidly due to their novel structures and potential applications. In this thesis, we synthesized and characterized three novel metal organic frameworks Zn2L(1) (1), Cd2L(H2O)5 (2), Mn3L2(H2O)3(CH3CN)2 (3) by reactions of rigid linkers 1,2,4,5-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene (H4L) with Zn(II), Cd(II) and Mn(II) respectively.1,3 was found to have novel topologies, and 2 has the topology of scu.1-2 and the ligand exhibit blue light at 475 nm when excited by 360 nm light in solid state which was found to be ligand based. The intensities of 1-2 are stronger than that of the ligand.3 has weak antiferromagnetic property. In chapter 3, two new soft, tetradentate, carboxylate acid ligands L2 and L3 were synthesized and characterized by 1H spectroscopy. In chaper 4, summary of the thesis is given. |
