In this paper, we study the comprehensive utilization of poor iron ore in China by a series of smelting reduction experiment, in view of the using both "Slag" and "hot". It was proposed that recovery pig iron from low-grade iron ore by melt processing, at the same time, the hot slag was modified to be prepared of glass-ceramics with high added value. This method not only shortens the processing of recoverying iron from low-grade iron ore, but also can save energy, help the utilization of resources and improve the economic benefits of steel production.First, the effect of Fe2O3content on the crystallization temperature, energy of crystallization and the structure of basic glass of a glass-ceramic based on CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2(CMAS) system was investigated by means of IR, DSC and XRD. And analyze the effects of iron on the crystalline phase, the physical and chemical performance of the CMAS system ceramic-glass. The result shows that0.5w%of Fe2O3introuduced into CMAS system glass helps reduce the crystallization temperature, promoting their crystallization ability and improve their physical and chemical properties.Secondly, smelting reduction of a low-grade iron ore in Yunnan by electric furnace were investigated by means of factor analysis and orthogonal experiment. The effect of reaction vessel, reduction temperature, reduction time, alkalinity, additions of CaF2content and the species of reductant were studied. The result shows the optimum conditions that:the best reaction vessel is a graphite crucible, alkalinity of1.0, the reaction temperature was1550℃, the reaction time was90min, CaF2was2wt%, use coke as the reducing agent, can achieve the desired effect melting, molten slag iron content below1wt%.Finally, CMAS system was selected as the basic glass, zinc oxide as nucleating agents, investigate the preparation of ceramic-glass by slag abtained smelting reduction low-grade iron ore. The results showed that:when the amount of ZnO between2-3wt%, the nucleation temperature is750℃, for2h, and the crystallization temperature between1000℃-1025℃, milky glass-ceramics with diopside as main phase was obtained, and its physical and chemical properties consistent with the national standard.
