Polymeric ionic liquids or polymeric analogues of ionic liquids (PILs) are the polymerwhich has ionic species in the polymer matrix and the ionic species are covalently bonded tothe polymer backbone. Polymeric ionic liquids has inherited some properties of ionic liquids(nonvolatile, good chemical stability and thermostabilization, and good chemistryperformance) and many advantages of polymers, including light weight, leak proof, safe andreliable, easy to processing molding etc. Such excellent performances of PILs have receivedgreat attention from the scientists, because it can be as a new type of solid electrolyte. In this paper,5species quaternary ammonium salt cationic based on a methacrylatepolymerizable group and containing different number ether groups (-CH2CH2O-) weresynthesized. Exchanging with perfluorinated sulfonyl imide anion (FSI, TFSI, FPFSI),15new ionic liquid monomers were synthesized, and using ionic liquid monomer as rawmaterials, we synthesized5species PILs through free radical polymerization.Thecomposition and structure of ILs (PILs) can be confirmed by NMR, IR, MS. The molecularweight of the PILs can be confirmed by viscosimetry. The physicochemical properties of theILs and their corresponding PILs have been studied in terms of TGA, DSC, and ionicconductivity. The researches show that: All obtained ILMs and PILs have good thermalstability, The decomposition temperature is great than250oC. The PILs containing alkylether side unit show lower glass transition temperature (Tg), the Tgvalues of the alkyl etherbased PILs is significantly lower by64oC than those of the corresponding alkyl based ones(Tg=14oC, P[C5O2NMA,11FPFSI]; Tg=50oC, P[C7NMA,11FPFSI]). The ionic conductivitiesof alkyl ether based-PILs compared with the corresponding alkyl based ones all improved, inthe best case, the ionic conductivities can up to8.67×10–7S cm1at30oC and10–5S cm1at60oC (P[C7O3NMA,11FPFSI]), The good physicochemical properties of the presentedmaterials make them potential candidates for electrochemical applications.
