Hydrogen peroxide is widely used as a raw material in chemical industry. Theanthraquinone process is still the primary method for synthesis of hydrogen peroxide.2-ethyl-anthraquinone (EAQ) and2-ethyl-9,10-tetrahydroanthraquinone arefrequently used as the carrier, and trioctylphosphat (TOP) and C9~C12aromatics arefrequently used as mixture solvent. While the solubility of anthraquinone in suchsolvent is relatively low which reduce the yield of hydrogen peroxide. In this work, replacing TOP with diisobutylcarbinol (DIBC) as polar solvent is studied to increasethe solubility of alkyl anthraquinone. The solubilities of EAQ,2-tert-butyl-anthraquinone (TBAQ) and2-amyl-anthraquinone(AAQ) in the TMB and2,6-dimethyl-4-heptanol (diisobutylcarbinol,DIBC) mixed solvent with different solvent ratios were measured, and the resultswere contrast with the solubilities in1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (TMB)/TOP and TMB/2-methylcyclohexyl acetate (MCA). Experimental data show that the solubilities of2-alkyl-anthraquinone in all the binary solvents always increased with risingtemperature and the ratio of TMB to DIBC. The solubilities of AAQ and TBAQ aregreater than EAQ. Under the same temperature and solvent ratio condition, thesolubilities of TBAQ in TMB/DIBC and TMB/MCA were much higher than those inTMB/TOP. The density of DIBC is the smallest in those solvent, which gives it anadvantage over TOP and MCA.The experimental data was correlated with modified λ-h equation, NRTL equationand Wilson equation with the average relative error below2.87%,4.10%and8.34%,respectively, indicating that NRTL has better performance in data association. The distribution coefficient of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) between TMB/DIBCand water phases was measured and correlated with NRTL equation. These data indicated that the distribution coefficient of H2O2in H2O-TMB/DIBCdobuled compared to that in H2O-Ar/TOP.The solubilities of alkyl-anthrahydroquinone in binary solvents TMB/DIBC weremeasured. The data indicated that the solubilities of alky-anthrahydroquinone inTMB/DIBC were smaller than that in TMB/TOP under the same volume ratio, but thesolubilities of alkyl-anthrahydroquinone in TMB/DIBC increased by increasing the ratio of DIBC to TMB or the content of2-alkyl-9,10-tetrahydroanthraquinone in thesolution.
