In this paper, based on the collection and analysis of process & operation data from the exiting chlorine scrubber system of Hengsheng Chemical, the new absorption unit focusing on chlorine recovery or adsorption, was developed and designed for the performance improvement of the chlorine absorption unit, through a study of the mechanism of absorption phenomena and of the factors which control them such as the process, equipment and the like.At first, the HCl gas of emission stream was brought into contact with water in GX500-20 carbon falling film absorber, In well designed processes, the absorption assured clean gases and produced hydrochloric acid (more than 30%wt.) as the product acid for sale or other usage. The gas after removal of HCl, if needed as raw materials, can be compressed to the pressure ranging from 0.06 to 0.07Mpa by water jet pump, and then fed to the up-stream together with fresh chlorine, and if not needed, will be sent to the chlorine adsorption system, through the automatic controlling device, to produce sodium hypochlorite as by-product for sale.AS a typical fine chemical industry, the production was by batch process in Hengsheng, A typical absorption with Twin Towers was not applicable, because the fluctuation of exhaust emission was Large. Through the research, absorption modular design of three-towers was set up based on the absorption process with Twin Towers, and we designed a new calculation method of the spray load for the absorption. Our absorption systems were proven the solutions that satisfied the capacity at full scale and reached acceptable levels at the outlet of the system. The data at present available indicated that effective chlorine of sodium hypochlorite was improved by 10%, which met the specification of the product. Compared to the old scrubber system, the utilization rate of sodium hydrate was raised by 10%, the operation cost was cut down around 30% considerably.
