Objective: To evaluate the biocompatibility of the hydroxyapatite surface constructed by piezoelectric ceramic coating. Methods: According to ISO/10993 and GB /T16886 series of standards to test the biocompatibility of the hydroxyapatite surface constructed by piezoelectric ceramic coating.1.Hemolysis test: Rabbit blood anticoagulant dilution were added to the piezoelectric ceramic coated hydroxyapatite surface extracts constructed, saline and distilled water, test the rate of hemolysis; 2.Short-term systemic toxicity test(oral route). The rats were orally administered hydroxyapatite surface of the piezoelectric ceramic coating build extracts and saline, animals were observed weekly on weight change, food utilization; 3. Pyrogen test: From New Zealand rabbit ear were injected intravenously hydroxyapatite surface built by the piezoelectric ceramic coating extracts and saline animals were observed temperature changes. 4.Sensitization test: A piezoelectric ceramic coating extract the experimental group hydroxyapatite surface constructed with complete Freund’s adjuvant for the test solution, the control group with saline soluteon with complete Freund’s adjuvant as tested fluid. The maximum dose for sensitization experiment, observation of animal skin conditions. Result: 1. The hydroxyapatite surface built by piezoelectric ceramic coating extracts has the hemolysis of 0.86%; 2. After one week administeration, The difference of increase the amount of weight between the experimental group and the control group was not statistically significant(P > 0.05). The utilization of food were 16.5%, 16.9%, Respectively. After two weeks gavage, the difference of the increase of the body weight between the rats in the experimental group and control group was not statistically significant(P > 0.05). The utilization of food were 16.71%, 17.1%, respectively. 3. After injection of hydroxyapatite coating the surface built by piezoelectric ceramic and saline, experimental rabbits’ body temperature increases 0.30℃. The experimental rabbits body temperature increases 0.60 ℃ totally. 4. 24, 48, 78 hours after remo-ve the patching material, animals skin scores of the test group and the control group were less than 1. Conclusion: the hydroxyapatite urface constructed by piezoelectric ceramic coating without hemolysis, nontoxic, without heat, no sensitization, it has good biocompatibility.
