Oil is indispensable energy in nowadays, its main mode of transportation is through the pipeline. Because of natural and artificial factors, the oil losses during the transit. The lost oil will not only bring huge economic losses to the county and enterprise, but also pollute the environment seriously, so the pipeline leak detection technology is a hot topic home and abroad. Based on the research of the existing pipeline leak detection technology, this article has proposed a new method for pipeline leak detection with combinations of the actual research project, i.e., the internet of things technology based detection method for pipeline remote leak detection. This article starts the research form the following several points.Firstly, this paper introduces the traditional methods and major related technology of leak detection home and abroad, proposes a new method for resolving the problems that the traditional methods unsolved like false-alarming, missed-alarming, leak location accuracy and so on, and designs a remote pipeline leak detection system based on the internet of things. Analyze the system leak detection methods in detail, and introduce the discriminating mode and the key technology in locating of leak detection method based on negative pressure wave multiple pressure sensors in detail.Secondly, use the professional pipeline simulation test software OLGA and PVSTIM cooperatively to setup the pipeline leaking simulation test system. Use the simulation system to simulate the conditions of pipeline leak fault, so as to find out the order of negative pressure wave reaching the test points, then get the error of the leak positioning and the accuracy of the order that the negative pressure wave reaches test points through comparing the results to theoretical data. The analysis and the demonstration of the simulation result proved the feasibility and the accuracy of the proposed method, which serves as the theoretical foundation for hardware platform setup.Finally, the node controller module at pumping station’s front-end has been designed that take the ATmegal6L as controller and consist of corresponding peripheral control circuitry, and then this module’s every hardware circuit and software have been analyzed in detail, the paper also describes the operating mode ant working principle of the FSK carrier communication way in detail. The monitoring center as the core of server has been designed, and then a remote pipeline leak detection system based on leak detection module has been built.
