Study On Environmental Behavior And Influencing Factors Of Heavy Polluted Enterprises

Heavy polluting enterprises, mostly industrial enterprises, is the subject to promote economic development, but they are also mean source of environmental pollution. Heavy polluting enterprises’positive environmental behavior is the key to strengthening the sustainable development of China’s environment. This paper first reviews the research scholars of corporate environmental behavior and its influencing factors, then make the definition of corporate environmental behavior. Summarizing the types of Corporate environmental behavior and major theories to lay the theoretical foundation for empirical research. Secondly, analyse the performance and characteristics of heavily polluting enterprises’ environmental behavior. Through a questionnaire survey on heavily polluting enterprises, 186 valid samples of data were screened. Then use the factor analysis method on 186 heavily polluting enterprises to evaluate their environmental behavior. Thirdly, the study propose all together 8 theoretical assumptions of heavily polluting enterprises environmental behavior factors. Construct a conceptual model of heavily polluting enterprises environmental behavior factors. Using the method of correlation analysis and regression analysis to explore the main factors which influencing the environmental behavior of heavily polluting enterprises, and do the hypothesis testing. Finally, give recommendations on how to persuade heavily polluting enterprises to improve their environmental behavior from both government and enterprise perspective.The results show that the scores of 186 heavily polluting enterprises’ environmental behavior evaluation have a large difference, and enterprises which exists more than 50 years have more positive environmental behavior. For types of businesses and industries, enterprises’ environmental behavior score is not very different. Factors that can have an impact on the environmental behavior of heavily polluting enterprises are environmental regulation, environmental management awareness, corporate governance structure, market structure and the financial situation. Another 3 factors as corporate survival period, enterprise scale and social environmental awareness have not pass the hypothesis testing. Recommendations for government include improving environmental management standards of Heavy polluting enterprises, promoting the reform of heavily polluting enterprises and providing technical and policy support. Recommendations for enterprises include more emphasis on environmental issues, communication with government, Seizing the chance and put environmental behavior into the strategy.
