Soil is an important component of substance and energy exchanges between ecology, water, gas system, which is an important support for the survival of the human environment. In recent years,it plays an important role in migration and transformation of matter and energy, many different kinds of problems of soil were producted.Environmental pollution have been widely paied attention to environmental studies, waste which comes from steel factories pollutes the air, water and soil seriously.Jiuquan iron and Steel Group Company is the forefront of Chinese 500 in manufacturing industry near Jia Yu Guan city,However, smelting is intensity, and it obviouly effects the soil environmental quality around the factory. The related research is not deep enough. Therefore, based on heavy metal and magnetic susceptibility of the different types of soils as the research object adjacent a steel factory near Jia Yu Guan city, this paper evaluates the pollution of the soils in this region. Our results were helpful to understand the environmental soil environmental risk assessment in the area and provided a basic data for their ecological restoration. The results show:The contents of the measured heavy metals are significantly increased in the topsoil. And the similar fluctuant trend depth-dependent have happened, each measured heavy metal with a correlation coefficient of 0.18~0.62 is found in the measured profile. All these show that the anthropogenic dust input into the topsoil. This suggests that the steel factory is probably the predominant cause for strong metal signals. Pollution is mainly found in the downwind direction area, of which the strongest part is in a range of 4 km. All the individual pollution indexes and Nemerow indexes of heavy metals of topsoil show that the topsoil is contained seriously. The northwest area near the factory was serious polluted by the steel industrial pollutants, and the northeastern lesser. The magnetic susceptibility and heavy metals of topsoils have the similar fluctuant trend. In uppermost soil horizons(0~1cm) increases significantly relative to the deep soil, and gradually decrease at 1~5cm,and in 0.1cm is the maximum. The magnetic susceptibility of soils below 5 cm has not been disturbed. Although the topsoils were all predominated by a low-coercivity, pseudo single domain(i.e. coarse)magnetic particles, but their content were different from each other, and the order was as follow: Gobi > farmland >mountain land. The content of magnetic minerals depended on the pedogenic process. Furthermore, the magnetic susceptibility of topsoils near the steel factory were higher than those in the other regions. Additionally, the northwest area near the factory was serious polluted by the steel industrial pollutants as the local lower prevailing wind. With the advantage of simple, fast, inexpensive, non-destructive measurement, the environmental magnetism method is better than the conventional chemicalmethod. Here we operate magnetic susceptibility concentration factor(Si) as a indicator to evaluate the magnitude of the soil pollution. It is expected that the Si would be used as an effective indicator to monitor and evaluate the magnitude of soil pollution instead of the chemical parameters.we will have proved its feasibility again.A strong correlation between the magnetic susceptibility and metals indicates they have the same source.
