With the development of C hinese petrochemical industry, the safe of operation and overhaul issues has become increasingly prominent in petrochemical plant. Especially, petrochemical plant is very generally complicated, and petrochemical plant will be involved flammable or toxic and harmful substance. Therefore, the general overhaul of petrochemical plant needs a high technicality and is very difficult. Air separation plant plays a fundamental role in the ethylene glycol businesses. Air separation plant belongs to a very complex chemical plant, which mainly includes power system,the liquid storage system, and other liquid storage systems. Given the complexity of the system and the importance of air separation plant in ethylene glycol enterprise, it is necessary to study the overhaul of air separation plant in ethylene glycol ente rprise. In this paper, the safe overhaul of the air separation plant of Jilin Petrochemical Company ethylene plant was discussed, in order to pride references for the safe overhaul of the air separation plant of Jilin Petrochemical Company and other companies.Firstly, seven hazards from the liquid oxygen pit, liquid oxygen tank and its nearby, and process plant area were identified before the overhaul of the air separation plant by using the LEC evaluation method combined with expert evaluation, these hazards may cause a fire hazard, suffocation and other hazards etc. Secondly, the environmental factors of overhaul were identified and mainly from the noise of the compressors and heating pipes by using the matrix evaluation method combined with expert evaluation. Thirdly, the preparatory work before the overhaul was identified. That inc luded the identification of the guarders, and the completion of training of maintainers and operators according to the rules of overhaul. At last, the specific overhaul task was identified according to the plant processes and its failure prone of Jilin Petrochemical Company ethylene plant air separation. This overhaul included the total of 50 items, of which the company control projects had 6 items, the factory control projects had 5 items, and the workshop control projects had 39 items. Then the main content of the overhaul project was described in detail. After the overhaul, the achievements and shortcomings of this overhaul was summarized. The achievements included that the p roblems of the security risks of liquid oxygen vent system and poor oxygen compressor connecting rod and crosshead return etc. had been settled successfully. The shortcomings were mainly unable to resolve the problems of cooling tower air tank with water a nd cold grilled perlite long time etc.
