Cutting tool is an important part of mechanical manufacturing. As a common drilling tool, the unique semi-enclose processing environment of twist drill makes the phenomenon of tool wear really serious in the machining process, and the most serious areas of tool wear is the flank of twist drill. The flank of twist drill needs to be processed when the tool wears up to the abrasive standard for improving the working efficiency and the useful life of twist drill. There are three tool sharpening methods for the flank of twist drill, including helicoid grinding method, cone grinding method and plane grinding method. The thesis designs a kind of forming machine for the flank of twist drill by wire electrical discharge machining on the basis of cone grinding method.The main contents of the article include:(1) Analyzing the operating principle, mathematical model and respective character of three grinding method based on the research of the structure and angle parameters of twist drill. Cone grinding method has been selected as the processing method of forming machine by comparing three grinding methods.(2) Analyzing the processing principle of wire electrical discharge cone twist drill,building the mathematical model of wire electrical discharge cone twist drill in accordance with the characteristics of the flank of twist drill deemed to be space ruled surface. Building the twist drill model based on processing method of the wire electrical discharge cone twist drill by UG.(3) Designing overall structure of the forming machine, setting the configuration project of motions and ingredient of the forming machine. The forming machine is divided into three parts: lathe bed, wire-moving system and rotary table. Designing the structure of lathe bed, analyzing critical piece and work function of the wire-moving system.(4) Based on analysis work function of the rotary table, the design and selectioncalculation of the mechanical transmission component of the rotary table are presented in the section. The rotary table and the integrated forming machine are assembled.
