Polyphenylene Oxide(PPO) have been studied extensively as thermoplastics for applications in automotives, microelectronics,machinery and so on, due to their excellent properties, such as outstanding thermal and thermal oxidative stabilities, high strength, creep resistance, flame resistance. However, the stress cracking, poor chemical resistance and brittleness of polyphenylene oxide products have limited its industrial use in a wider range of applications. Polyphenylene sulfone(PPSU) as a excellent comprehensive performance plastics for application in electronics, automotives, medical equipments, packaging materials,due to their excellent properties, such as mechanical properties, thermal properties, flame resistance, creep resistance, chemical resistance, high transparency and so on. However, it also has the shortcoming like the larger rigidity, and the high cost. In order to achieve the complementation of the properties of PPO and PPSU, PPO has blended with PPSU toreduce the cost and make it more valuable.Glass fiber(GF) reinforced plastics was an important means to improve the mechanical properties of materials. It has many advantages,such as high strength, corrosion resistance, dielectric properties and easy to shape. The glass fibers consists of silicon, boron, or aluminum oxide.According to the chemical composition, it can be divided into Non-alkali fiber and Alkali fiber. Also, it can be classified as the characteristics,applications, fiber diameter, length, and so on. It can be divided into continuous glass fibers, chopped glass fibers and milled fibers according to the length of the fibers. Glass fibers has been widely used in fiber-reinforced composite materials, not only the thermoplastics such as PA, PP, but also the thermosetting plastics which can improve the tensile strength to 400 MPa, closed to the steel.In this paper, the blends of PPO and PPSU has been prepared by the three-screw extruder melt blending. The results showed that it is fully compatible due to the blends has a glass transition temperature. PPSU has enhanced the thermal and thermal stabilities, also it has improved the mechanical properties. This work explores the glass fibers reinforced the blends of PPO and PPSU, too. The results showed that the addition of glass fibers has little effect on the compatibility of the blends. But it increases the heat distortion temperature, the storage modulus of the blends, and the materials has better thermal and thermal stabilities.Meanwhile, the glass fibers improves the tensile properties, bending properties and impact properties of the blends.
