Oxygen is necessary for the coal gasification process. The purity of oxygen in the process of coal gasification and small fluctuations of the oxygen flow will seriously affect the stable operation of the system, which may cause the system’s shutdown in case of emergency. Oxygen preheater is the key equipment in the oxygen unit. The study on the tructural optimization and application of new type oxygen preheateris is of great engineering significance.In this paper, the flow field analysis of the traditional U type tube heat exchanger and the new type oxygen preheater was carried out by using fluent software. The results showed that the structure of the new type of oxygen preheater is reasonable. Oxygen preheater as a new type of heat exchanger, design and manufacture is difficult. This paper designed a new type oxygen preheater structure, special-shaped structure has carried on the structure design and calculation in the design process and the finite element analysis software ANSYS is used. Finite element model of oxygen preheater is established. The safety of the heat exchanger is analysing standard security assessment based on JB4732-1998. Stress intensity evaluation shows that the oxygen preheater structure is safe under design condition. Finally oxygen preheater of common problems appeared in the process of manufacturing were studied, research results show that the heat exchanger structure design is reasonable, meet the analysis and design standard.
