RuO2 is used as the catalytic material for chlorine evolution and IrO2 is for oxygen evolution in industry. However, the pure RuO2 or IrO2 coating electrode does not meet the demand of production just because of its easy to peel off and short service life. Doping with other oxides or fabricating an interlayer between the coating and Ti substrate is an effective way to enhance the electrochemical properties and service life for RuO2 or IrO2 anode, which has been reported by a large quantity of works.Electrodeposited silica (e-SiO2) film possess the characteristics of high chemical stability, high roughness and good porosity. In this work, we prepared Ti/e-SiO2/RuO2 and Ti/e-SiO2/IrO2-SiO2, which is a novel Ti electrode with electrodeposited silica as an interlayer, and we investigated the effect on the electrochemical behavior under different conditions to electrodeposit silica film.The electrochemical surface structure of Ti/e-SiO2/RuO2 and Ti/e-SiO2/IrO2-SiO2 electrode is investigated by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurement and the electrochemical catalytic properties is studied by the linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) method. The results show that the porous silica markedly improves the area of the electrode and noticeably improves the activity of oxygen evolution or chlorine evolution. The existence of the electrodeposited silica as an interlayer pronouncedly increases the service life of Ti anode; The prepared Ti/e-SiO2/RuO2 electrode has a longer service life than Ti/RuO2 electrode and the same result was also found in the Ti/e-SiO2/IrO2-SiO2 electrode, when compared with Ti/IrO2-SiO2 electrode.The introduction of electrodeposited silica film as an interlayer provides us a new and effective approach to prepare dimensionally stable anode with good electrochemical properties and long service life. This preparation method is simple and environmentally friendly and is likely to be applied in industry.
