| Since fire been taken into use, it gives us so much convenience. However, it also takes so many problems about safety of body and wealth. There are so many cases destroy our city and injure people, such as Great Fire of London. We understand fire in this process.Pool fire is fully studied by previous research, in which mass burning rate, flame height, flame tilt angle, flame length and flame shape is common. Through investigate, it found that previous research is focused on conditions without cross airflow and pool height. However, in practice the oil tank is in open field, cross airflow will influence it’s flame behavior. At the same time we should notice that the flame shape, fire burning rate and others will change, some behavior like downwash (flame spilling out of pool rim attaching to the leeward side wall), flame base drag (flame attach experiment table and extend alone the leeward side), flame detachment (flame leave the front rim). In these behavior flame base drag length influenced and changed by pool height obvious. So this paper will do research to fill this block.This paper do experiment including detachment length, downwash length and flame base drag length to research the flame base behavior, with experiments as temperature distribution and critical condition (flame attach the experiment table) to do some supplement. Propane is employed as fuel, pool sides are chose as 10cm, 15cm,20cm and the cross airflow is given as 0.38 m/s-2.48 m/s, fuel supply rate (volume flow rate) is taken as 0.25 m3/h,0.5 m3/h,0.75 m3/h,1.00 m3/h,1.25 m3/h and 1.5 m3/h, the heat release rate is ranged from 6.88-41.25 kW. More conditions are set in downwash and critical cross airflow speed experiments to study the trend precisely. Temperature distribution is taken to explain the trend and test the attachment value. Comparison to previous formula is taken to verify the considerable influence from pool height to flame base drag.In this paper, experiments as attachment and downwash need more accuracy, so the way to get data is splitting video and do it frame by frame. However, for flame base drag length, the data is get by scale on experiment table. It is found that attachment length increases with cross airflow velocity and fuel supply rate, however, decreases with pool side length increase. Depend on temperature distribution, it is found that temperatures of front flame and block have saltation, so we can make sure the range of front flame. Downwash length is also increases with cross airflow velocity and fuel supply rate and decreases with pool side length. Flame base drag research introduce pool height based on downwash research. |
