With the development and progress of society, the demand for steel materials is also increasing. At the same time, the performance requirements of steel materials are also more stringent. It is seriously that sulfur content affects the performance of steel materials. It is necessary to reduce sulfur content for getting the high quality steel.There are many advantages of desulfuration in the hot metal pretreatment. Magnesium is the most widely used desulfurizer in modern society. In this paper, we study the process of bottom stirring in the hot metal pretreatment. The desulfurization efficiency is higher with the better of the effect of bottom stirring on the mixing of hot metal.Based on the model of 170 tons of hot metal ladle, this paper set up the mesh models by the software ICEM. The process of bottom stirring is studied fundamentally by using FLUENT software to simulate and calculate.Two-phase flow between hot metal and desulfurizaiton gas is simulated by VOF model.The simulation scheme is divided into eight types according to the distance from the nozzle to the center of the hot metal ladle and the angle of the two nozzles.The influence of 4 different flow rates on the flow field is simulated under the optimal layout scheme.The chief results are showed as follows:When the nozzles is arranged eccentrically, the mixing effect of the hot metal is better than the nozzles of molten iron is arranged symmetrically. the two sides of the nozzles form two different circulation when the nozzles is arranged eccentrically. The air volume fraction of the eccentric direction is higher than that of the air volume fraction in the symmetry direction. This is because of the larger turbulence generated by the eccentric direction. The rising air spread more in the direction of the eccentric.When the distance between the nozzle and the center of the hot metal ladle is a certain value, the angle between two nozzle is too large or too small is not conducive to the mixing of desulfurization gas. The stirring effect of the gas is best in the hot metal ladle when the angle is 60°. More desulfurization gas is spread around.The optimal nozzle layout scheme in this paper is an angle of 60°,away from the hot metal ladle 1/2 radius. The best flow rate is 600NL/min. According to this scheme and the flow rate of desulfurization gas, the flow field of hot metal ladle is the best.More desulfurization gas is spread around. At the same time, slag entrapment will not happen.
