The leaching ilmenite with HCl-metal solution is mainly studied in this research. Ilmenite is one of the most important raw material. Because of the high level of the calcium and magnesium in the ilmenite, it is invalid to get the synthetic rutile by electric-furnace smelting law and reduction-rust process law in China. Leaching with hydrochloride acid has a powerful capacity and it can remove the calcium and magnesium besides iron, therefore, it is suitable for the ilmenite in China.The research is mainly about the leaching of ilmenite by using HCl-metal solution, which comes from PanXi. The equipment used is a horizontal autoclave which is made by zirconium. The experiments is mainly to optimize the conditions such as the concentrate of the HCl solution, the species and concentration of the chloride salts, leaching time, temperature and the liquid-solid rate. Compared with the synthetic rutile produced by leaching with hydrochloride acid directly, the leaching time of synthetic rutile produced by leaching with HCl-metal solution is shorter and the grade is about 95%, which is also higher than leaching with hydrochloride acid directly. However, the pulverization becomes more serious simultaneously. The pulverization is about 30%, nearly 10% higher than leaching with hydrochloride acid directly.Whether there is the hydrochloride salt in the two groups causes the differences between them. The experiments are designed to test the activity of the hydrochloride acid in the solution at 25℃. It is found that the concentration and the chemical valence state have an effect on the activity. The activity increases with the concentration and the chemical valence state. The activity means the effective composition of the solution, so it leads to the reduction of the leaching time and the improvement of the synthetic rutile. And the analysis of the SEM shows that needlelike synthetic rutile covers with each other and finally aggregates to the fine particle, revealing that the pulverization is mainly determined by chemical factor.
