The process intensification can be accomplished by energy release in an instant of bubbles collapse made in cavitation.Hydrodynamic cavitation mainly occur in orifice plate, venturi tube, and newer cavitation reactor with reed whistle in present domestic and international research.These devices exist some defects such as low throughput and difficult to realize industrialization.This paper used the theory of the cylindrical surface-irregularities and gate slot as the mechanism of hydrodynamic cavitation, a new rotating cavitation reactor was designed,which greatly enhanced the efficiency of cavitation and increase the throughput of cavitation.To investigate the strength of hydrodynamic cavitation of rotating cavitation reactor and the fundamentals of its intensification law, the detailed studies has been made.The experimental equipments of hydrodynamic cavitation were built.Theoretically explained why the rotating cavitation reactor had high effect and flux, and made an experimental verification, the parameters of rotating cavitation reactor were discussed to research the influential factors of cavitation effect; On this basis, phenol wastewater degradation experiment was carried out by using rotating cavitation reactor.From the studies, the conclusions can be drawn.(1) It is easy to generate cavitation by using cylindrical surface-irregularities and gate slot in high-speed flow.(2) The strength of rotating hydrodynamic cavitation reactor increased with the increase of the inlet flow and the speed of motor.(3) Compared with hydraulic cavitation reactor with reed whistle, the strength of rotating cavitation reactor increased obviously, which may reach 500% most greatly. Rotating cavitation reactor had the most economical flow and speed,it had positive significance to the industrial application.(4) The degradation rate of phenol wastewater of rotating hydrodynamic cavitation reactor increased with the increase of the inlet flow and speed of motor.But when the speed of motor was greater than 1500rpm and the flow greater than 2.5 cubic meters per hour,the increase of degradation was not obvious.The maximum of degradation was about from 0.7 to 0.9.
