Silicone hydrogel lenses with high oxygen bring comfort and well-received for consumers. It has become a mainstream in the market of the soft contact lens. It also showed a gradually upward trend in our country. Silicone hydrogel lens contain silicone monomer material which can greatly enhance the oxygen permeability, but caused an increase lipid precipitation in lenses. To some extent, this material increased the difficulty to clean the lenses. Currently, most of multi-purpose care solution in the domestic market can effectively remove the conventional protein deposits in hydrogel lenses. However, the ability of cleaning lipid deposition in silicone hydrogel lenses is poor. As the results, a multi-purpose care solutions which can efficiently cleaning lipid in the silicone hydrogel contact lenses is urgent to meet the needs of the market.The study design and develop a multi-purpose care solution which contain alkyl glycoside as the main lipid-removed component to meet the cleaning requirements for the silicone hydrogel contact lenses. APG is a green non-ionic surfactant which having a small surface tension, significant detergency, non-irritating to the eyes or skin and other good performances. The results show that multi-purpose solution developed in this study can effectively remove lipid deposits in silicone hydrogel contact lenses. Especially, several sections of work were carried as follows:(1) A method was established to evaluate the effectiveness about removing lipids of care solution in lenses. Under the conditions of 37℃, the lens were immersed in the designed artificial tear (ATF) with low protein and high lipids for 16 hours, in order to simulate lipid status of lens after wore 30 days. Care solution and n-propanol were used to elute lenses.cholesterol in the eluent were measured though colorimetry to reflect the clearance rate of the care solution.(2) A method was established to evaluate the effectiveness about removing protein of care solution in lenses. At a constant temperature of 37℃, the lens immersed in ATF with the whole protein in 72 hours, and then saline and care solution were used to elute lens.protein in the eluat were determined by UV absorption method to reflect the protein clearance rate of care solution. Proven precision and recovery of the method met the requirements of analytical methods.(3) The formulation of multi-purpose care solution for silicone hydrogel lenses was designed. APG as a main cleaning component was in the formulation. In addition, the formulation contain pH adjusting agents, osmotic pressure adjusting agents, viscosity modifiers, antimicrobial agents, surfactants, etc. functional ingredients.(4) The formulation of multi-purpose silicone hydrogel lens care solution was optimized by adjusting the basic physical and chemical properties such as pH, osmolality, clarity and viscosity. Optimizational silicone hydrogel lens multi-purpose care solution’s cholesterol clearance rate is72%, and exceed market mainstream products Alcon care solution and Hydron care solution; the designed care solution with 13.76% protein clearance rate is better than the Bole pure care solution and Hydron care solution. This study showed that the multi-purpose care solution is applicable for a variety of soft contact lenses.The innovation of this paper is described as follows:1. Alkyl glycosides as the surfactant was applied to the contact lens care solution for the first time, it also has a good performance.2. The evaluation method of removing lipid in a multi-purpose contact lens solution was established.3. A care solution which can remove lipid effectively was developed. The formulation also has good abilities in removing protein and was suitable for all types of soft contact lenses.
