The contradiction between the limitation of forest resources and the sustainable growth of wood consumption is becoming more prominent in the word, and how to make effective use of wood in this context is a problem worthy of study. In this article, wood chair was selected as the research object, it based on the structural strength requirement of the chair, used the study methods of theoretical force analysis and simulated analysis of ANSYS Workbench software to conduct the reduction research of wood chair from it’s simplified modeling, reduced part size, optimized node connection structure, and verified the strength of wood chair through the physical model test of static load and durability.According to the market survey and literature study determined the wood chair research sample’s material, style, connection and the construction type, such as: handrail, stretcher, backrest, chair leg, seat, and the basic sizes; In accordance with the national standards for furniture mechanical test determined the wood chair research sample’s static load size and the corresponding constraint conditions, and analyzed chair’s static load strength by the means of ANSYS finite element software.Studied the influence of the stretcher’s height from ground on the structural strength of wood chair through chair’s static load strength analysis, contrasted and analyzed the structural strength of wood chair with stretcher and without stretcher in the situation of the same amount of timber of side frame, and verified the feasibility of reducing the use of stretcher.The calculation of the minimum section size of wood chair leg and rail was based on the design of chair frame components, and achieved from the bending stress calculation formula of furniture components which combined with node bending force has obtained from theoretical force analysis by static balance method, and contrasted with wood chair sample about structural strength and material utilization.The failure loads of square tenon in different tenon length was determined by studying the effect between tenon length and bending strength through T-shaped square tenon used as the node connection of chair hind leg and side rail. The relationship between tenon length and the maximum equivalent stress under failure load was determined by analyzing the strength of the T-shaped component through the simulated analysis of strength on the basis of failure load, and the optimization value of tenon length was predicted.According to the national standard for mechanical testing of furniture analyzed the backrest static load and durability of the chair that has been made into object, and verified the structural strength of wood chair under reducing met the requirement.
