Pumping unit as an important machine mining equipment and energy consumption of oilfield enterprises, consumes large amounts of reactive power. This produces many negative effects on the power grid voltage quality, equipment safety and economic benefits. Nowadays,the theme green grid has been advocated,therefore automatic reactive power compensation for pumping unit is imperative.This paper analyzes the static reactive power generator of multilevel inverter topologies and modulation strategies based on the basic principle of static reactive power generator and studies the principle of five-levels of soft switch inverter, what’s more, it also analyzes the conditions of the soft switch technology(ZVS) of the five-levels converter topology. This paper establishes the model of multilevel soft switch inverter simulation based on software Simulink and validates it’s accuracy and feasibility.In this paper, the improved reactive current detection method based on dq coordinates is used for the extraction of reactive current without phase-locked loop. The reactive compensation uses neurons in combination with classical PID optimal control algorithm and double closed-loop which are outer voltage loop and inner current loop.This paper builds a simulation model of reactive power compensation based on simulation software Simulink.This model can accurately compensate the reactive power under both conditions of symmetric and asymmetric load and verify the validity and superiority of single neuron PID control algorithm through a large number of simulation experiments. The compensation effect is good by applying Single neuron PID control algorithm to the model of pumping unit.Based on the core controller of NI Single-Board RIO 9606 and combined with LabVIEW new design concept of graphical programming, this paper designs an automatic compensation energy-saving system hardware circuit for pumping unit using the idea of FPGA "oftware is instrument" virtual instrument and gives the software design scheme. This hardware circuit includes motor soft start, data collection, Liquid crystal display etc.
