With the continuous development of the national economy, energy demand is increasing. However, China’s resource conditions make our country can only rely on coal-dominated energy structure in a long period.These circumstances put forward higher requirements to how to achieve efficient and economic exploitation for coal production enterprises.After years of extensive mode large-scale mining, the coal seams suitable for longwall mining have declined. Residual coal pillars, residual mining areas and other irregular part coal resource reserves is increasing every year. To solve these problems, experts and scholars put forward a solution is short-wall continuous mining method, referred to continuous short wall mining. Promotion and application of short-wall mining technology can recycle the corner coal and residual coal pillarmaximumly, extend the service life of coal mine, constantly improve the economic benefit of coal enterprises and important for the sustainable development of coal industry.As a new mining method, short-wall continuous mining methodhas been get some small successful applications in some mines, but for mining field structure, failure characteristics of overlying strata, face strata behavior regularity and other issues have little research. Facing some new problems when applying the continuous miner in short wall mining technology, such as because of the strata behavior regularity is not clear, section width and various types of coal pillar size is unreasonable, resulting in a large coal pillar plastic zone and the roadway deformed severely.For the characteristics of the roof collapse is not clear, leading to ineffective hydraulic support, so that equipment and staff in working face have security risks etc.In this study, the engineering studied background is a typical resource and reorganization enterprises of Yangquan Coal’s, 9110 ontinuous miningshort wall of Huahong Coal Industry. The purpose is to solve the leftover coal mining problem in 9+10# coal seam. On the basis of readinga large number of domestic and foreign references, through the theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and field engineering test research methods, with the laboratory platform of Taiyuan university technology, this paper studied the coal pillar types and its failure regularity, the roof structure, the mechanical displacement and deformation law, the strata behavior regularity, the control method of hard roof and draw some conclusions in these respects. These conclusions have certain reference value for short-wall continuous mining methods under similar conditions.
