Voltage is one of the most important index to measure the quality of electric energy, and is closely related to the distribution of reactive power. Adjusting reactive reasonable has an great significance to guarantee the power system security, stability, and high quality operation. The AVC system based on dispatching automation platform has been widely used in the reactive power regulation of power system of home and abroad, but most of the time, the AVC system has not been tested before online. Due to regional environment and the equipment itself, the application of AVC meets many problems. The regional AVC system, therefore, be badly in need of a closed-loop testing platform to check itself before online. This paper puts forward a method of reactive voltage control efficiency’s detection based on RTDS,and it provides a path for research on the online detection of AVC. The first, simulating the actual network on RTDS.The second, designing a reactive power optimization program on MATLAB and an interface on RTDS to realize closed-loop control. Finally, controlling RTDS model with practical AVC and optimization program, and after comparing the results of closed-loop test, we can study the control efficiency of the AVC system. Comparative results show that, this scheme is a feasible path. Based on the analysis of experimental results, it can be found that the AVC in the research is very difficult to adjust when voltages or power factors are too low. Perhaps the main cause is the restrictions on the adjustable frequency of the device such as transformer and reactive power compensation equipment are too stringent. And compared with custom reactive optimization program, the actual AVC system sacrifice the more economy.
