Large-scale integrating wind power systems changes the grid characteristics, and hasbrought a challenge to the safe of power system operation. With the continuous increasingscale of the development of wind power, the routine method of reactive compensationdevices allocation has not been applicable to power system with wind power. Thus, it isessential to study a new method to solve the problem how to allocate the reactivecompensation devices in wind power system. This paper discusses the allocation of reactivecompensation devices from two aspects there are steady economy analysis and transientstability analysis.Firstly, the present research status of allocation of reactive compensation withlarge-scale wind power integration are described at home and abroad, and also thedeficiencies of the actual research are pointed out. Then, the principle and application ofreactive compensation devices such as capacitor, SVC, STATCOM are reviewed. In the end, this paper summarizes the effects of reactive compensation device on the wind powersystem. On this basis, a new method based on economic voltage difference is proposed, whichis used to calculate the allocation of reactive compensation. This method uses the economicvoltage difference theory and Monte Carlo method in the view of steady economy analysis. The change of wind turbine output is considered in the method. According this method, theNew England10machine39node power system is analyzed. These conclusions are used to calculate the allocation of reactive compensationdevices. Then, a finally disposition scheme of reactive compensation devices is proposed.Lastly, simulation has verified the effectiveness of the scheme. In addition, the allocation of dynamic reactive compensation devices is discussed fromthe perspective of transient stability. A new algorithm to assess power system transientstability probability has been put forward. First of all, it use the algorithm to access theweak areas with the New England10machine39node power system as example. Then, according to the principles of reactive compensation division, the compensation node set isdetermined. The model of STATCOM is established, and then this paper uses the transient stability probability access to evaluate the effect of STATCOM. At last, the capacities of everycompensation node are set through curve fitting analysis.
