With the rapid development of economy, and the demand of power supply fromthe daily life and the industrial production, new opportunities as well as challengeswill be brought to the power supply system. Since the21st century, electronictechnology and network communication technology matures, so the smart grid fromthe initial concept is becoming a reality, which makes a reliable, safty, economic,high-efficiency, environment-friendly smart grid is no longer a dream. And with theemergence of the smart grid, the operation of designing and constructing intelligentsubstations is becoming more and more important.Intelligent substation is a reliable support of smart grid as well as the hub ofpower transmission and distribution, the reliability of which directly determines therunning capibility and the monitoring ability of smart grid. On account of the rapideconomic development and the incresment of power load, the capacity of the powersystem in ChangSha Dongyang Township has difficulties to meet the demands ofconsumers. So this paper mainly aimed at designing a new intelligent substation tomeet the needs in Dongyang Township.This paper first describes the concept, development history and current situationof intelligent substation, and the contents of this subject.Secondly, a brief introduction to the advanced technologies and equipment ofintelligent primary devices has been presented, which includes intelligenttransformers, high voltage switchgear and electronic transformers. Afterwards, thesecondary equipment and secondary key technologies are analyzed, includingIEC61850communication protocol, communication and network technology, timesynchronization techonlogy and so on. The main difference between intelligentsubstation and traditional substation lies in the information sharing technique betweenprimary and secondary devices, which makes the intelligent substationinformatization, automative and interactive.Finally, basing the previous analysis and designing frame of intelligentsubstation, using advanced technology, a new110kV Intelligent substation inChangsha Dongyang Township is designed. And this paper has made deep analysisand discussion in many aspects, such as the intelligentize of primary devices, thestandardization of information, the networking of information share and so on.
