In recent years, with the rapid development of automobile manufacturing level and road construction, the tractor- semitrailer has been widely used in the transportation field because of its low freight costs and higher transport efficiency characteristics. But the characteristics of large volume, high center of gravity, high quality and other issues are easily leading to produce folding, lateral instability and roll phenomenon, so that some serious accidents are caused. Therefore, the handling stability analysis of tractorsemitrailer is very necessary.Firstly,various subsystems were established, including of the cab, seat, steering,chassis, suspension, leaf spring, tire, braking,saddle, trailers and other subsystems in using multibody dynamics software ADAMS / Car in combination with an automobile manufacturing Co., Ltd. jointly developing a tractor- semitrailer.And all subsystem models parameters were provided by enterprises. And in the standard test rig all subsystem models were assembled into a full tractor- semitrailer vehicle prototype. In the same test conditions the real vehicle was tested,and experimental results were compared with the simulation results of the prototype model to verify the correctness of the prototype model, and provide a basis for the subsequent simulation.Secondly, the corrected prototype model of the tractor-semitrailer was made some handling stability and braking stability simulation, including of the steering wheel angle pulse simulation, steering wheel angle step simulation, snake simulation, steady state circular simulation, cornering with steer release simulation, braking stability simulation and a series of simulation experiments. Simulation results showed that handling stability and braking stability of the tractor-semitrailer were good. Meanwhile, the prototype model of tractor-semitrailer rollover conditions of handling stability simulation were studied to forecast rollover velocity and rollover angle.Finally, the tractor-semitrailer parameters how to effect its handling stability was studied. The study results were found that increasing the leaf spring stiffness, stiffness of the saddle, and the tractor front anti-roll bar stiffness can effectively improve the handlingstability of the tractor-semitrailer. Handling stability of the tractor-trailer were optimized and improved based on the response surface model and genetic algorithm design.According to the results of the optimization of the tractor-semitrailer to predict its handling stability, it was found that optimized handling stability were improved.
