| Objective To investigate the possible role of S100B protein in patients with early-onset and late-onset preeclampsia. Methods From October2010to September2011,60cases with preeclampsia who ended pregnancy by caesarean section were enrolled in this study,30cases with early-onset preeclampsia(early-onset preeclampsia group,<34weeks),30cases with late-onset preeclampsia(late-onset preeclampsia group,≥34weeks), matched with30women who ended pregnancy by caesarean section because of pelvic structural deformities, breech position, macrosomia and social factors as control at Municipal Hospital of Qing Dao. The expression of S100B mRNA in the placenta was detected by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR. The expression of S100B protein in the placenta was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results①The results showed that S100BmRNA expressed in the trophoblasts of preeclampsia and normal group, the expression of S100BmRNA of early-onset preeclampsia group(0.73±0.11) was significantly higher than normal pregnancy group(0.58±0.08) and late-onset preeclampsia group(0.64±0.10)(P<0.05), however, there were no significant difference between late-onset preeclampsia group and normal pregnancy group (P>0.05)②The results showed that S100B expressed in the plasma membrane and cytoplasm of the trophoblasts, correlated positively with the brownish yellow and brown particles inside the cells and expressed in all the groups of preeclampsia and normal group. Immunohistochemistry revealed that the expression level of S100B protein in placenta in early-onset preeclampsia group with positive rate100%(30/30) was markedly higher than that of late-onset preeclampsia group with positive rate70%(21/30) and normal pregnancy group with positive rate63%(19/30)(P<0.05), while there were no difference between late-onset preeclampsia group and normal pregnancy group (P>0.05).Conclusion①The expression level of S100B protein in placenta of early-onset group was high.②S100B may be the factor closely related to pathogenesis of early-onset preeclampsia.③Early-onset and late-onset preeclampsia may have different etiology and pathogenesis. |
