ObjectiveTo improve the understanding of traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment of dengue fever by literature review; To present the clinical features of dengue fever by analysis of clinical data; To evaluate the efficacy of Chinese medicine for the treatment of dengue fever by clinical observation.MethodsThrough the literature review, we hope summarize the diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine on dengue fever and the clinical research progress of Qingwen Baidu Decoction. Clinical and laboratorial data investigated for377patients with dengue fever were analyzed. Carrying out randomized controlled study,52cases of dengue fever were divided into two groups.27cases were in the observation group, and25cases were in the control group. Through the cooling time, TCM symptoms scores, APACHEAⅡ scores, blood routine test, liver function, T lymphocyte subpopulations in peripheral blood, the therapeutic effect of traditional Chinese medicine for dengue fever was evaluated.ResultsLiterature review:Dengue fever belongs to the category of plague and epidemic rashes in traditional Chinese medicine. Its etiologies are the deficiency of vital qi and the invasion of the plague pathogen. Its principles of treatment are heat clearing and detoxicating, cooling blood and removing blood stasis. Qingwen Baidu Decoction is one of the commonly used prescriptions treatment of dengue fever.Symptom analysis:The common manifestations of377patients with dengue fever included fever (100%), fatigue (92.3%), thrill (74.5%), headache (78.5%), myalgia/arthralgia (82.0%), skin rash (72.7%). The blood counts of thrombocyte and leucocyte that below normal range were82.0%and82.2%of377cases respectively. The serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT)、aspartate aminotransferase (AST)、creatinine kinase (CK) and lactase dehydrogenase (LDH) which were above normal range accounted for57.6%、80.1%、42.6%and87.9%of total108cases respectively.Clinical Observation:The cooling time of the observation group was less than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). For third days and sixth days, the TCM symptoms scores were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.01). For ninth days, the white blood cell count (WBC) was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). For sixth days, the platelet count (PLT) was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). For ninth days, the level of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). For ninth days, the level of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). However, at each time point, compared with two groups of T lymphocyte subsets in peripheral blood and APACHEA Ⅱ scores, the differences were no statistically significant (P>0.05).ConelusionLiterature review:Traditional Chinese medicine has accumulated rich experience in the diagnosis and treatment of dengue fever.Symptom analysis:The main TCM Symptom types were vigorous heat at qi-blood phase and interaction of the blood-stasis and toxin.Clinical Observation:Based on the study, the clinical curative effect of combined treatment of traditional Chinese and Western Medicine was better than that treatment of the pure western medicine, especially in reducing the cooling time, alleviating the symptoms, increasing the number of white blood cells and platelets, and alleviating the liver injury.
